Popular Attractions

The Exumas are renown for their sapphire-blue waters—waters so stunning, their brilliant colours are visible even from outer space. This chain of 365 islands is home to secluded footprint-free beaches, deserted cays, and ultra-exclusive resorts. Here, nature outnumbers man, coastlines remain flawless, and private islands play host to some of the world’s most famous stars—including a group of four-legged local celebrities.

Swim with pigs

One of the most unique things to do in Exuma is also one of the best-known things to do in Exuma: swimming with pigs. Pigs roam freely on the uninhabited Big Major Cay, also known as Pig Beach. No one is quite sure how they got there, but they are very friendly.

Accustomed to daily visits, the world-famous “swimming pigs” like to swim out to meet arriving boats and enjoy frolicking in the water with visitors.

Exuma Land and Sea Park

Established in 1958, the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park is the first marine reserve in The Bahamas and the wider Caribbean. Covering 112,640 acres of land and sea, it is renowned for its breathtaking beauty, species biodiversity, secluded beaches, amazing views and safe anchorages.

Throughout the park you can explore the underwater magnificence of coral reefs, mangroves and seagrasses, stroll along pristine beaches, traverse several hiking trails, and observe tons of wildlife including birds, fish, turtles and iguanas. ECLSP Wardens and RBDF officers, stationed at Warderick Wells maintain constant patrols and surveillance of the park.

Dive and Snorkel

Looking like an emerald and pearl necklace strewn across the sparkling turquoise of the sea, the Exumas provide one of the prettiest settings for boating, sailing , fishing and snorkeling in the entire Bahamas.

Some 360 sparsely populated islands, islets and cays spill down the west side of the Exuma Sound for 100 miles before culminating in the most populace islands, Great Exuma and Little Exuma. Invitingly soft, white-sand beaches stretch along the length of the chain, crating the perfect place for barefoot relaxation. For a more intense party time, try the Out Islands Regatta in Great Exuma in April, the largest Regatta held in the country.
